College Planning: Keys to Successful Time Management
By Mimi Rothschild
The schedule for a home school student is worked out on a systemized basis. Unlike a traditional school, the home school student has a time schedule which is flexible: designed to help the child nurture his extra curricular as well as academic talents. Through proper time-management, home school endeavors for the student to improve proficiency and helps them grow intrinsically as well as externally.
The home school environment is such that the student's academic life does not clash with his social life, and there is an even balance of both activities. The tools of time management and the procedures laid out for the home schooled student helps the child organize his schedule properly. No longer will he be enslaved to a particular thing and no longer will his freedom be restricted. The home schooled student's time management is adjusted according to the weekly or monthly set of assignments, social activities, physical education and development of interpersonal skills.
This is how the home school helps the child to make the most of his time as a part of the weekly schedule:
A print out of the Time Management Weekly planner for the home school is taken out.
The activities for the week are laid out with the help of a ruler and a pencil. The time window is set for valuable activities like academics, one hour breaks for lunch and dinner. There is a certain amount of time dedicated to activities like sports, scheduled meetings, language labs, regular exercises, campus jobs, peer tutor meetings and also time-outs for entertainment like TV shows and games.
Being a home school student gives you the privilege to make your own study management schedule. Isn't that exciting? One of the perks of being in home school is that you can fill in your study time for that week. The time you allot for studies will depend on the class work, test papers that you correct and the projects that you have to do for that specific week. Find out what is the time that you prefer to study in home school. Are you comfortable studying for a long stretch of time or do you prefer to take little breaks between your studies? It is better if you allocate more time to the subjects that are on the tougher side. A smart high school student will always plan his breaks after every block of two hours of study.
You can plan and find out if your schedule for home school works like you anticipated for a week. You can make the change in the next week's schedule for your home school if the situation warrants so. Most people love home school for the flexibility and adaptability it gives to the child as well as the parent.
