Advice for Homeschoolers: Meditation & the Homeschool Mom
By Mimi Rothschild

It is common knowledge that busy moms need time for themselves, and this holds true for moms who homeschool. The demands of homeschooling can sometimes be overwhelming, particularly when you have more than one child learning at once. Though there's no doubt that homeschool is a rewarding endeavor, things can get a little crazy! When you need a break from the homeschool rigmarole, you might consider giving yourself a “time out.”

That doesn't mean you should sit yourself in a corner and give yourself a stern talking-to! Homeschool moms can get frazzled fast when daily life piles up on them. Enforcing a regular “time-out” for yourself can help you get your wits back and save you from pulling your hair out. Homeschool moms can adopt their own form of meditation. Many choose to enlist a daily devotional to help them relax and find some peace.

It is important for moms who homeschool to choose a devotional act with which they are comfortable. You have no need for a devotional act that talks down to you. It shouldn't leave out the most important factor a homeschool mom needs for that end-of-the-day lift: humor. For moms who undertake the task of homeschooling, humor can be a real saving grace. It is so refreshing to be able to laugh at the end of the day, no matter how many problems you've encountered.

When you're looking for a good devotional act that targets your needs as a homeschool mom, you should consider investigating one written by a mom just like you. One good example is Grace for the Race by Dena Dyer. As a young mom, Dyer found herself desperate for ways to break from the daily routine and take time for herself. When she couldn't find a suitable devotional act, she wrote one! Dyer's uplifting encouragement, inspirational prose and amusing anecdotes make for great reading and meditation for any homeschool mom. Finding a series of Biblically-based meditations that are tailored to the specific needs of homeschool moms is a breath of refreshment in this harried world. If you're a homeschool mom, give yourself a time-out today to read Grace for the Race, or give yourself permission to develop your own meditation routine. You deserve it!
