Christianity and Homeschooling: Scrapbooks for Homeschoolers
By Mimi Rothschild

Many moms, including other family members, have discovered the joys of scrapbooking. So why not try scrapbooking as part of your homeschool project? When you've decided to take on the homeschooling scrapbook project, you are sure to not only enjoy some special memories with your children but also enjoy another learning experience when scrapbooking. Scrapbooking your homeschool projects, completed curriculum and field trip photos are not only fun but will provide you with a cherished memento. Your child will enjoy looking back through his scrapbook to see all that he did while homeschooling.

To begin, you will need supplies. If a scrapbook supply store is located in your neighborhood, you're in luck! Choose a simple scrapbook in a color that your child likes. When homeschooling, many parents are not employed in order to spend more time with their homeschooled children. So if expense is a concern, try shopping for a scrapbook at your local craft store. Many will have sales and will also carry other supplies you may be looking for. Some use paper shopping bags to make their own original scrapbooks, while others shop at garage sales. There are many ways for the homeschooler to save when working on their scrapbook project.

When choosing a scrapbook and the supplies needed, you will want to make sure that all supplies are acid free. Many products now provide this information on their label or packaging. A homeschool scrapbook will last a lifetime if you are careful to only use acid free materials. Purchase a large plastic container to keep all your scrapbook supplies. Being organized not only helps when beginning your project, but can help in the long run with homeschool discipline. Staying organized helps with all areas of homeschooling and can take that extra burden of searching for materials off your shoulders.

Having a scrapbook will make it easier for a parent to show off everything that has been accomplished during the homeschool year. Be sure to include photos, drawings, awards, and art projects in the scrapbook you both create. Photos of your child placed in the scrapbook will also serve as a homeschool yearbook, showing not only your child's academic progress but also their growth! A scrapbook showing achievements is also a great way to build self-esteem in your child. Why not make one for each homeschool year to see first hand how far your child has advanced over the years?
