Homeschool Entrepreneur
By Mimi Rothschild
The Wall Street Journal has an interesting piece about a clever entrepreneur who also happens to be a full time homeschool mom.
We feel very strongly about teaching the girls a portfolio of skills that will give them both a solid foundation for a 21st-century career, and a rich inner life. Cultural literacy, logic, math, science, computer skills and an entrepreneurial outlook are essential.
It’s great to see that this career woman is putting family first. I don’t think that work and family have to be mutually exclusive. It’s great to see the Biblical concept of a mother’s role put to proper use in the 21st century.

After struggling with trying to balance work and homeschooling, it occurred to us that it was possible to make our home business a true family business. The children could participate and learn real-life skills that books can’t teach them.
At the time, we had just built a blog to help market Alaskan cruises. A trip to the library later and my four children were exploring Alaska. After a little more research on the internet, they were writing articles and poetry for our blog category “Alaska for Kids by Kids.”
We got help bulking up our blog. Our children learned about Alaskan geography, wildlife, business blogging, marketing, researching, article writing, and entrepreneurialism. (Soon, they will learn about html and keyword effectiveness research. In today’s world, these skills are priceless.)

Thanks Heidi for sharing It sounds like your homeschooling children are learning a lot as your family works together on marketing Alaskan cruises. What do your children love most about Alaska? Does anyone else have any similar experiences in their homeschooling families?
